Day 28

Well i will dedicate this book to the kids we writing it to, to me, and to my family because i dedicate everything to my family. I choose to dedicate this book to the kids because were creating it for them. If it was not for them we would not be doing this project. I dedicate it to me because i took the time to write this book.

The importance of acknowledging people in your writing is to tell them you possibly got ideas from them, and that the people reading your book give them some credit as well. Acknowledging people also lets the people know that you care about where you ideas came from, and that person, or people is very important to the authors life.

Day 27

el maestro y el estudiante- means the teacher, and the student translated into spanish so thats one i was considering because this is just a remake of it. Another would be the lying teacher because thats what the scene of the story is. Also the smart student- this kid is smart, and tricks his teacher out of his lies that he tells his class. I'm considering avoiding issues. I choose this because there are a lot of issues and problems that my character encounters in my version of the story, and that some problems are better avoided. My last option would be the cunning kid. I choose this because i think it's a title the little kids would like, and because this kid is smart.

Day 26

My story is going rather good. It has a halloween theme for the kids even though halloween is over. My story is going good besides the pictures. I don't know when were really going to really start making these books but I'm getting anxious, and excited about it. Another things is about the blogs.  


They help very much but I'm real lazy to go back and look to get ideas to build my story, but i have to. Also looking back at the blogs help me generate new ideas. Going back over them gets my mind on track when i get lost which is a lot of the time.

Day 25

I like the flow of my story. Everything falls right into place, and i love my style of writing. It's very descriptive, and uses imagery. I like to place good images inside the readers mind to get into character against the antagonist. I like for the reader to feel involved in the story so they are suspenseful. My story when read aloud sounds really good and scary. My style really doesn't keep the story together it just gets the reader feeling like they are in the story themselves. I like for people to have emotion when reading my script. My story sounds good to me, even though it is a little stereotypical.

Day 24

I would say that my story would most likely be number 3, and number 4. Reasons that i would say this is because, My character overcomes his problems with his teacher, but not by his own though. It was sort of a coincidence, or a very slim chance that he caught his teacher up in a lie. It was all up to chance that he dreamed of the virgin mary. Reason it's number 4 is because of the bad influences are outfaced with the help of the fauna in the story. He stops hanging around all the negative people around his village because the mythical creature prevents him from attempting bad things. The overall climax i would say though would be when he catches the teacher in the lie.

DAY 23

I would say my character has two social responsibilities. The first one is to decipher the truth about things exactly like the way he broke through the teachers lies. The second one is to maintain at home and to stay away from the wrong group of people. Reason is because my my main character Juan, wants to become successful at what he wants to do, and in order to do that you have to maintain focus and avoid people that can turn you away from your success.

Social responsibility to me are responsibilities, or jobs that u need to do that benefit you, and the public around you as well. The term "social responsibility" remains completely clear to me, and that's what makes this blog hard to do. I applied the social responsibility of my character deciphering the truth because it's benefiting him, but it's also helping others around him know the truth about things which is benefiting the public. The other one was staying away from the wrong people. I chose this because by staying away from the bad, he's benefiting himself, and could possibly change the minds of the others.

Day 22

The theme of my story is don't tell lies get. This happens in everyday life so i think its important to just tell the truth because in the end lies will catch up with you. Also the moral lesson included will be don't hang out with the wrong people because they can put you on the brink of death. T


hings that i will write about will obviously be about him and the teacher arguing about him falling asleep in class. I'm going to write about the Chupacabra to help Juan keep out of trouble. I have to write about him seeing the Virgin Mary because without that part of the story the lies is excluded. I have to include his bad friends. Also i have to write about the characters personalities.

Day 21

Juan was off to school, didn't do the homework, and was ready for the consequences. He was also not going to sit there, and be scolded by the teacher neither. He had his own reasons for not doing it, and one was the teacher himself.

i chose this as an introduction because i feel that some suspense is about to happen with his teacher, and him. I put that he isnt going to sit there and let the teacher yellat him so you know theres going to be a big arguement about to go down. I'm trying to influence suspense.

The illustration I'm going to put will be a cartoon character with his face being red, and his ears emitting steam. I think the kids will enjoy this picture because it will be goofy looking, and steam coming out the ears is cartoonish which kids like

Day 20

Most likey i will pay somebody to draw them for me. That is just as likely for me to adobe photoshop the pictures. My parents also bought this neat 500 dollar program for my computer to where i can do cool stuff with the pictures so ill try it out.All 15 pictures are going to be intriguing. The first one will have the boy walking to school. Second him in class getting in trouble for asking why does the teacher fall asleep so early, and third the teacher falling asleep. fourth is the student walking out for getting in trouble. fifth is him meeting up with his friends outside of school, and six is when the chupacabre chases him back home. Seven is a new day where he goes to school.The eighth picture will be him falling asleep in the teachers class.

nineth will be him seeing the virgin mary. 10th will be him telling the virgin mary has never seen him. Eleven, him getting in trouble for being a smart alec. Twelve will be him leasving detention around seven o' clock when it's late.thirteen will be him going to meet up with his friends that bully other people. Fourteen will be the monster chasing him back to his house. fifthteen picture will be him at home with a sigh of relief understanding that the monster was chasing him to keep him out of trouble.

Day 19

Well first of all, I wish more story could be for a more maure audience because i'm more of a comical person. Also in my story i feel i missing the mexican setting. I feel that the dust, and dirt aren't there. Also i feel that appropriate dialogue is missing. I'll come about that easy though.

The main thing i feel i'm missing though is characters. I only have two. I don't have a wide variety of dialogue in my story. It's wither the student talking to the teacher or to himself. There are two occasions when he talks to his friends but those are like 15 second conversations. I'll have to contemplate on how to spice this story up with some action. Action is what i feel it needs!

Day 18

All of my stories have no author.

The four dragons: this story was mainly about how the dragons were playing in the clouds one day, and discovered that their people didnt have any crops to eat, and so they needed to send rain to help crops grow. They went to the jade emporer who was the master of earth, and begged him to send the water but all the emporer cared about was his own desires. So without the consent of the jade emporer the dragons scooped up their own domnains which was the eastern sea, and let the water drizzle down their mouths all the way to earth to help the peoples stock grow because the innocent children had begun to eat clay, and grass roots. They also ate Bark from trees. Finally when the jade emporer found about of this he had the dragons imprisoned forever, and they all never regretted their actions to helped the ones they cared for.

Loawnu the wise woman: this story was about how her village was going to throw a big festival the next day , and the kids saw pieces from the sky falling, and so did all the other people in the village. They paniced, and didnt know what to do. Loawnu told all the children to gather the pieces from the sky that had fallen. Yet she had known it was water. So the next day the sky was all back to normal, and they all thanked her.

Wang the Peddler: This story was about a man who knew he had to make his money to get what his wife had wanted. He went into the city, and sold all his coal, and then forgot what his wife had wanted because he had worked all day. The only thing he could remember was that what she wanted was something crescent shaped. He ended up getting her a mirror, when what she really wanted an imperial comb.

All these stories have morals. Such as doing whats right wven though its wrong. Those dragons knew they had to save the people even if they defied the orders of the jade emporer.
The moral of the second story is if your wise, and all knowing you won't panic because you're knowing whats going on around you. Information is valueable.

Finally the last story. The moral of this is that work can interfere with your life in all ways. All these folk tales teach you about life and the hardships that it carries. Also that good can also be bad at the same time. The prupose of every folk-tale is to teach and give a life lesson.

Day 17



Wang the Peddler(new folk tale)


In the new Chinese folk-tale that i have just read, the story was about a man that knew he had to get into the city to sell his coal that he was gathering. One day his wife told him that she wanted a beautiful comb, made of wood, that was beautiful like it was used in the imperial courts.He went to the city, and sold all his coal. Then he went in search for the something that his wife had wanted. He had forgot exactly what she wanted, and bought her a mirror because he remembered only that what she wanted, had to be mooned shaped like a crescent.  


Similarities: I see no kind of similarities in the story. The morals are way different. The lesson that i learned in this one is worry of getting your job done can interfere with life at home. The lesson learned in the story I am translating is do not lie because you will get caught up in it. No similarity.  


All the differences are listed above but there is one significance in both stories. The number 2. in the new story there is 2 people, he has 2 caskets of bamboo that carry the coal. The mooned shaped crescent is used twice as well. In my story there is 2 people, 2 days and nights, 2 lectures, 2 encounters with Mary.  


The message of the story i have just read is told above. That work, or your job can interfere with your family, and social life. It can effect it a great day. Some people come home from their jobs stressed, and are in bad moods. Sometimes cuts are mad within the corporation, and people go into depression because they think their life is over. Many reasons cause people to act like this but these are some of the main reasons.

Day 16

Jaun- He's going to have one of those most Mexican accents tht i just can't stand. Also he was not going to able to speak correct english because most of them can not down in Mexico. I'm just trying to relate how they talk by their culture since that is what everything in the past blogs have been about. He is also going to have a cracking voice.

Mr.Chavez is going to have a deep mexican voice. A voice sort D-bo off friday, but his voice is also going to have a very annoying mexican accent as well. His voice is going to be somewhat silent too because of his elderly age. He's not a well man, and has sickness with a smokers cough.

Mr. Chavez- How is the weather jaun?
Jaun- I don't think that is important Mr.
Mr. Chavez- Well I was just asking. You do not cough....... cough. cough. You do not to be so rude about it.
Jaun- I was trying to tell you that question really is not important.
Mr. Chavez- Jaun, just go to the cough........ office. I've had enough.
Jaun- Enough of what?
Mr.Chavez your arrogant attitude. Just leave my classroom(then falls asleep).
Jaun- Haha. Old man can not keep his head up for more than 5 minutes without falling asleep(leaves the room).

Day 15

Critique-Although i did a good job on my animoto i felt that i could have done better on it. I only spent 20 minutes. I felt that i could have put more effort in my animoto. Even though i told my story through the pictures i felt that i could have found more elegant pictures.


Criticism-Some of the pictures of the animoto were a little mature for little kids. that is one negative about it. Another thing i felt could have been improved was more pictures to tell the story perfectly, but there was not enough slides.  


Congrats-Congratulate myself because i felt good about it because, number one, i got it done. Number two i taught i my story through my pictures. I thought this was an excellent idea so the people could get images about my story. I think the morals are great in my story.

Day 14

To begin the story will start off during the day, and since the kid in my story is a lazy bum, the mythical creature is there to give him an extra push to school, and to keep him out of trouble with the outside world if you don't realize that. Day 1- He runs to school being chased by the creature on october 30. The teacher falls to sleep in class he ask the teacher why are so so lazy, and the teacher responds with that's how i get your lessons. From the Virgin Mary. So the kid falls for it. The bell rings and he goes home, and he sees some of his friends doing bad things in the streets, but once he tries to join them the Creature comes out of nowhere and chases him home. He stays in the rest of the night wondering why Mr. Chavez goes to sleep for his lessons, and how a mythical being like a chupacabra comes out of nowhere. He stays up the rest of the night horrified. Day 2- He goes to school in the next morning and is so tired and exhausted from staying up late. So he falls asleep, and in his dream he sees Mary and all her children around her. Juan decides to ask Holy Mary does she give the lessons taught in class by Mr. Chavez, and Mary replies,"I've never seen Mr. Chavez in my life." So he catches the teacher in his lie. The teacher gets mad and throws him in detention until six O'clock. After the detention it's already dark. It is around 6:30. So when him and his friends see each other in the street, they go around vandalizing things. Once again the Mythical being comes out of nowhere and only chases Juan. But why? It's to get the boy out of trouble and so he realizes that he's hanging around the wrong group of people who are peer pressuring him, and negatively influecing his life.

Day 13

My folk-tale provides that the message within my text. Is to never lie because lies inly get you tied up. That is the essential message of my story.I want to share the same message with my story, There really can't be any changes to the message being conveyed. I can only add moral lessons. There isn't much to change in this story with the lesson being taught. I can only change, or add another lesson because if i alter anything in my story other than the student outsmarting the teacher the message itself will change no matter which culture, a lie is a lie, there all misleading, and bad.

Day 12

Mine is definitely a Trickster folk-tale. 100% of the way. In the story the kids creates humor by answering the teacher with The Buddha saying he has never seen him before when the teacher says he sees him every time he takes a nap, but the Student later finds out that the teacher is lying.  


When i read this story i chuckled at the end because the teacher was caught up in his own lie, and the student outsmarted the teacher. The teacher was the more powerful character in the folk tale and the smaller character out maneuvered him. This is an excellent folk-tale on teaching a lesson to never lie. I'm rewriting it with the same exact line because i want to keep the moral lesson with the story.

Day 11

The Monk and The Student

There is no numerical mythology with any number in my original story. In the original story the only guess I can infer would have to be the number 2. there are two main characters. There is only 2 settings in the whole story. There is 2 times that buddha is mentioned, and there are two days, and two nights throughout the whole story. Those are some examples on why I think two is the magic number in this story.

In the new, and improved version I think that the number will still be two. There is two people, there will be two days, there will be 2 main places still, and my mythical creature will appear twice. The number of settings will change, and there will be some other things changed. It will fall on October 31 on Haloween, but if you subtract the numbers you get 2!!

Day 10

I'm all caught up on every blog. Things, and opinions I hear from other people helped me shape my story into what it needs to be. The major help came from the most strict critiquer of all Jarelle Easterwood. Without his help i would be lost in my story, but he kept me on the right track even though his strict as God knows what.

The importance of blogging is hearing what other people has to say so I can fix my mistakes. Blogging is a way for other people to proofread your work. THe major difference between writing this on paper, and blogging is the multiple corrections you can receive, and how much of a time saver doing this electronically can be.

Day 9

 There aren't many fantasy things about my culture, but i know that one animal that is and it's a chupacabra. They are a hybrid of a dog, and a bat. They are bipedal, and walks on two legs. The hispanic culture doesn't really have any pleasant creatures or mythical things that are positive towards the kids.

There are hardly any fantasy elements to add to my story because there are simply not that many mythical things in Central America, Mexico, and Spain. It's going to hard to think of interesting creatures or things that relate to the hispanic culture to capture the audience of the little kids. Only things i get are scarely ghostly myths and tales that i don't think are appropriate for our young audience. I'm going to have to go figure.

day 8

The Monk and The Student

I choose this picture because it's simply elegant, and serene. Everything looks so calm and peaceful except for the guy that looks like he's trying to kill buddha on the top left. The luminescent light looks so beautiful, and telling from the things around him, and From Buddha being in the center of the picture, you can tell that he's a great religious philospher.

The water underneath him seems to be still, and the cherry blossoms falling gradually from above also add to the serenity. This picture has so much color it feels like it's alive. The angels to the sides of buddha must be shielding him from all the evilness, and I ultimately chose this picture because it's perfect for the asian culture that the story is originating from. 

I also think that this represents asian culture itself. Most asians are calm, and quiet. They just mind their own business, and achieve what they need to go. Most asian people aren't violent, and the whole martial arts thing, asians learn an art form called Wushu, which when translated means into english means "Stop War".

Day 7

The Monk and The Student( Mexican Version)

There is no main character, but characters. My character as the student is named juan, and the teachers name is Mr. Chavez. Mr. Chavez falls asleep in class and claims to have seen the virgin Mary. The next day Juan falls to sleep and says to the teacher that the virgin Mary hasn't seen him.

Mr. Chavez is a bald teacher that is aging, and getting old, has a beard, and doesnt care about his job. He's just trying to make it in the world, and doesnt care about the education that the kids are receving. He has thin eyebrows, brown skin. He comes from a family that has 16 kids, and was one of the exiled brothers because he was boring.He is a poor person who has no wife, and no kids. He likes to sleep, and when he is active he watches TV.

Juan portrays only to be a gangster when really he's not. although he has no interest in school he is all about the females, but is always rejected. He says that he is making his money when he really only is making F's. He is bald headed, dresses with dickies, and flannel shirts with his Loc glasses on all the time. He lives for no special occasion, but to be lame and is not smart. He is the child of 7, is slanky, and wears extremely big clothes.

day 6

The spanish alphabet consist of 30 letters supposedly from the picture. I think it will be pretty interesting to write a book in spanish because i can add a lot of humor. A lot of sterotypical things are in the mexican heritage such as the mom with a chancla.

Well since I'm changing it into spanish I'm going to use words such as:

This language will be pretty easy. I don't know it but i hear it daily, and catch on to a lot of words, but if there any errors in some of the translations that i have gotten, feel free to comment so i can fix my errors so my story will have correct language in it.

Day 4

The Monk and The Student



All the action and events in my story occur in the school classroom. That is actually where everything took place. The teacher, and the student only went home one time, and no action took place in either households. All the dialogue takes place in the classroom. The Folk-tale comes from China. other than that it had no specifics, no weather, no nothing. Thats why i know its going to create my version of the story because there is a lot of room for imagination in my folk-tale.

In the new story the weather will be exhausting, and hot thus making the teacher falling to sleep. I'm also going to add a mytical creature just to add some element of scariness to it, and so the children that we're reading the book can take an intrest, and I change my mind on the Holiday. It will be on Holoween because I heard that is a real tiring day because of all the festivities that occur. Also because haloween is known for it's scariess so the mythical creature has a purpose.
I'm still in the process of thinking but I believe I can make a real interesting childrens book because of how many things that this folk-tale is missing.

Day 3



Write about the components of the culture you have chosen. What are the important aspects that you want to share in your story. Make a list of these components and describe their importance. Think about food, religion, mythology, music, clothing, relationships, history, geographic location, climate, flora and fauna, and holidays. Your list should be lengthy and detailed, as this activity requires you do some research.


Some important aspects that i needed to analyze before thinking of ways to rewrite this in another way is to see how the students in Hispanic culture act. I want to share the how Hispanic culture is, and how they act in school life. 9% of hispanics retain a bachelors degree, and only 2% a masters. This tells me that hispanics don't enjoy school, and that they have a negative attitude towards education. Also from experience around my school i can see that most hispanics don't enjoy school, or don't take an interest. 

I'm also going to add additional parts to the story. I'm going to add a fauna, and mythical creature at the start which is a chupacabra, and it will fall on Cinco de Mayo. The geographical location will be in a desert with cacti and a boy walking to school barefoot.To replace the Buddha,  The Virgin Mary will be in place. A burrito will be in place for snack. Clothing will be a little dirty, and in sandals.  Those are the components that need to be altered, and added. The climate will be fair, and humid.

Day 2

There are essentially no motifs in my story that resemble something of importance. The only thing that reoccurs is the school building. The archetypical characters are the teacher, the student, and the great philosopher of asia, Buddha. These people are the main focus because they are the only people in the story.

Without any one of those characters, there is no way to duplicate this story in to my own work, or folk tale. I want to retain everything about the story, but I'm going to have to get rid of Buddha, and put in Jesus or a religious prophet that the Spanish are most familiar with. I want to retain also the elemet of lying, and decpetion because thats what the whole story is about.

Day One

The Monk and the Student

I chose this folk-tale because I thought it would be interesting coming from China because I think the whole chinese culture is very interesting. From experience, I know how chinese do prayer worship because my grandmother is from Taiwan, and some chinese cultures, and traditions have influenced culture in there country she said. She believes in all religion that teaches good attitude and morals, but her main practice is Buddhism.

I also chose this folk-tale because after reading it, I thought it had some good humor in it. The teacher fell asleep in his class everyday, and he told a student he did because Buddha gave him knowledge, and information to teach the class. Well one day, the student he told fell asleep in his class, and the teacher got very mad, and after he yelled at the student, the student said I dreamt of Buddha, and he told the teacher that Buddha said,"Never in my life have i seen your teacher."

I chose the new culture the be Spanish because Hispanics are crazy, and i would like to see the reaction of a Spanish teacher. Also Hispanic kids are not as courteous as any asian kid. So i think if it was rewritten in this language more problems would occur
