There aren't many fantasy things about my culture, but i know that one animal that is and it's a chupacabra. They are a hybrid of a dog, and a bat. They are bipedal, and walks on two legs. The hispanic culture doesn't really have any pleasant creatures or mythical things that are positive towards the kids.
There are hardly any fantasy elements to add to my story because there are simply not that many mythical things in Central America, Mexico, and Spain. It's going to hard to think of interesting creatures or things that relate to the hispanic culture to capture the audience of the little kids. Only things i get are scarely ghostly myths and tales that i don't think are appropriate for our young audience. I'm going to have to go figure.
Well...at least you understand now who your audience is =/
ReplyDeleteNot much to comment on, seeing as you aren't finished.
Are you sure there aren't any myths/legends? What about San Pedro and the Devil? What about the Jersey Devil? What about the poinsettia? What about La Llorona? There are PLENTY of myths and legends...well...yea you're right those myths aren't exactly child-appropiate...
You do know you don't have to base your characters after myths though, right? They just have to be centered around Mexican culture. For example, you could have perhaps a green dog that can fly. Or maybe a green bird with the ability to never die? Maybe perhaps you can make inanimate objects talk...
Have a nice night/day =/
Well Brett Jarelle has a point there is many myths, I heard you say in class about the Chuebaca. You can use that for a myth. Myths are not always going to be pleasant. They are sometimes scary, but they show you how to live life.
ReplyDeleteHope this helps.

While reading your blog it made me really think if us Latino's really have any good magical creature and I'm pretty sure there are many but they just put the bad ones out there. One thing that I know that might not go with your story but it's something Mexicans believe in. You know how when one of your teeth falls out and your mom says put it under the pillow and the tooth fairy will come get it. Well my mom, aunts, and grandma's always said "el ratoncito" which is a rat that is just like the tooth fairy but instead a rat! Just thought I would let you know!
ReplyDeleteMeso-America is FULL of mythology. Aztecs, Incans, Mayas, and Toltecs have pantheons full of gods and goddesses. Someone has not done his research!
